My Yoga Journey
I began my yoga journey in 1998 in New York City after reading Beyond Power Yoga by Beryl Bender Birch. The book inspired me to start my own Ashtanga practice at home and the Gaiam company introduced me to the yoga of Rodney Yee through his various VHS tapes. During this time, I lived in the New York City area and also practiced regularly at various studios throughout the city. In 2002 I relocated to Philadelphia and discovered Power Yoga Works, a Baron Baptiste style yoga studio. The Baptiste style led me to the Omega Institute where from 2002-2008 I attended many workshops led by Baron Baptiste, Seane Corn, Sharon Gannon, and Gurmukh. Influenced by many styles and instructors, I continued to practice and attend workshops and conferences throughout Pennsylvania, New York, and at the Kripalu Institute in Massachusetts.
I moved to the Chicago area in the summer of 2014 and began looking for a studio to continue my practice. Here I met Sharyn Galindo and discovered North Shore Yoga and immediately loved the community she had created in her studios. In the fall of 2015, after practicing for 17 years, I was introduced to The Chicago Yoga Center, owned and operated by Suddha Weixler. It was here that I obtained my 200-hr yoga teacher certificate under the guidance of Suddha. I went on to complete a childrenʼs yoga teacher training at Yogaview, Chicago with Om Slice Kids Yoga and a Restorative Yoga training with Leann Carey at Moksha Yoga Center, Chicago. Most recently, I have completed the 300-hr Advanced Yoga Therapy training program with Surya Chandra Healing Yoga School. Here, I earned a yoga teacher certificate in the lineage of T. Krishnamacharya and T.K.V Desikachar. This is also step 1 in the Yoga Therapy Certification process as recognized by the IAYT.
